Before you apply for used RV financing, get your address, job, income, housing payment, and RV information together. It makes the application faster and cuts down on follow-up questions. Once you receive an offer, compare the full loan. A low payment can still be an expensive deal if the term is long.
What to have ready
- Legal name, phone number, email, date of birth, and Social Security number
- Current and previous address
- Time at each address and your monthly housing payment
- Employer, job title, time on the job, and gross monthly income
- Other income you want the lender to consider
- Co-applicant information, if someone is applying with you
- The RV’s year, make, model, stock number, and expected price
- Your expected down payment and trade-in information
Use the secure application for Social Security numbers and financial details. Do not text or email that information to us.
Before you submit, read the credit authorization, privacy notice, electronic-disclosure consent, and communication choices.
What may happen after you apply
The lender may ask for documents to verify the information on the application. Depending on your situation, that may include proof of identity, income, residence, down-payment funds, trade ownership or payoff, and insurance.
Confirm where the request came from and use the lender’s secure method to send sensitive documents. Do not send extra financial paperwork to an address you have not verified.
What affects the loan offer
Every lender has its own rules. Common factors include:
- Credit history and credit scores
- Income and current debts
- The amount you want to finance
- Down payment
- Loan term
- The RV’s age, type, condition, and value
These factors can change the approval, rate, down payment, term, and amount financed. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau explains the same basic factors for vehicle loans.
Will the application affect your credit?
Filling out the initial TX Vehicles financing form does not create a hard credit inquiry. The finance company reviews the information you provide and contacts you with the result, including whether you are preapproved.
If a hard credit inquiry is needed later, that is a separate step. Ask when the credit pull will happen before you move forward. A hard inquiry can affect your credit score. Checking your own credit report is a soft inquiry and does not affect your score. The CFPB credit-inquiry guide explains the difference.
How the down payment and trade-in work
A down payment lowers the amount you need to borrow. It may come from cash, trade-in equity, or both.
If you still owe money on the trade, compare the accepted trade value with the payoff. Positive equity lowers the amount you need to finance. A payoff that is higher than the trade value creates a shortage that must be handled in the deal.
There is no single down-payment percentage that fits everyone. The RV, lender, credit, trade, and budget all matter. Keep enough cash for insurance, registration, towing equipment, storage, maintenance, campsites, and repairs.
Look past the monthly payment
A longer term can lower the payment and raise the total interest. Put these numbers side by side:
- Selling price: the agreed price before financing costs
- Down payment and net trade credit: cash or equity reducing the loan
- Amount financed: the amount you are borrowing
- Annual percentage rate: the APR used to compare the cost of credit
- Term: how long the loan lasts
- Monthly payment: the scheduled payment
- Finance charge: the disclosed cost of the credit
- Total of payments: what the scheduled payments add up to
- Prepayment and late-payment terms: rules that matter after closing
Check whether a warranty, service product, insurance product, delivery charge, or accessory has been added to the amount financed. Ask about anything you do not recognize.
A simple financing order
- Set the full ownership budget. Include insurance, registration, storage, fuel, campsites, maintenance, repairs, and towing equipment.
- Choose a realistic price range. A lender’s maximum approval is not a reason to spend that much.
- Gather the application information. Fix missing address, job, income, trade, or co-applicant details before you start.
- Use the secure application. The initial form is used for preapproval and does not create a hard credit inquiry.
- Handle verification requests. Send documents only through a secure, confirmed method.
- Compare the written offer. Look at APR, term, amount financed, payment, total cost, down payment, and optional products.
- Read the final contract. Make sure the blanks are filled in and keep a copy.
Questions to ask before you accept
- Who is the lender?
- What are the APR, term, amount financed, finance charge, payment, and total of payments?
- How much cash is due at signing?
- How did the trade value and payoff affect the deal?
- Are optional products included?
- Is there a prepayment penalty?
- When is the first payment due?
- What happens if funding is not complete by the hold-deposit deadline?
When you are ready, use the secure TX Vehicles financing application. For questions about the RV, price, trade-in, or buying process, send us the stock number before you apply.
Financing is subject to lender approval and final terms. TX Vehicles cannot promise an approval, rate, payment, term, or down-payment amount.
